Fun Stuff!

It's a beautiful time of year, and there is so much going on in the "neighborhood" in terms of fall and holiday events. Handel's Messiah will be playing at the local opera house soon, and many fall festivals and harvest fairs are still in full swing. The vineyards and wineries are in quite busy with harvesting fall and approaching winter wines, and Galen Glen will be hosting a delicious pairing dinner this Saturday night, which of course, we will most definitely be attending!
So, get out your calendars, and schedule a weekend of fun, romance and relaxation...before you know it, it will be ski season and time to hit the slopes, so get your lazy weekend in before the winter fun begins!!

Beautiful Day at Hawk Mountain/ Bake Oven Inn

Well, it was an amazingly gorgeous day at Hawk Mountain, after a somewhat warm and wet weekend. Our guests had a lovely time, and apparently, the fall foliage has been bringing in tourists to our area in droves! We saw many happy hikers on the trails, and the birds were out as well.

After a nice, vigorous hike, Bake Oven Inn offers a *scrumptuous* and languid Sunday brunch, running from 11 am to 4 pm! That makes for the perfect relaxing Sunday afternoon here in Central PA!! If you are in our area, or a guest of ours, you should stop by the Bake Oven Inn and have an truly delicious gourmet lunch or dinner...their food is top notch!

Hawk Mountain Hike

Well, we had a very enjoyable hike up to the North Lookout today. The weather was fine, and the wind at a minimum. The trails are beautiful, just starting to show the foliage change.

We started at the South Lookout, and decided to be daring and head up the Escarpment trail. As we began our ascent, we noticed a paper notice nailed to tree warning the hikers of rattlesnakes...unfortunately, we saw none--that's correct, unfortunately. I would've LOVED to see a rattlesnake in it's natural environment, provided I didn't step on it or give it a kiss by mistake!

While climbing the Escarpment trail, I lost my binoculars case, but it was two aggressive of a trail to climb back down for it, so I decided to loop back around when we were heading back altogether...which we did, and were able to retrieve it.
The trails are very well marked, and of mild to moderate in their challenge. Some of the trails are dangerous, such as the Escarpment, but this is not a main trail, so you can choose to avoid this if you like.
At the end of our hike, we saw a group of black vultures roving low over the valley, giving us quite a show. They were amazing creatures, and I was excited to see them through my binoculars, at first, and then straight over head and literally feet in front of us...I'd never seen black vultures before, only turkey vultures, so this was a real treat.

Well folks, that's it for today! Be sure to book a fall foliage package, hiking package or wine country package, and enjoy this lovely weather and scenery for yourselves!!

Autumn Evening Mixer

We're gearing up to do our Autumn Evening Mixer--this is going to be on Wednesday, September 9th, 2009, from 4 pm to 7 pm...we'll be serving wine, hor'doervres and dessert, coffee, tea, etc.

This is open to the public (we're sending out notices through the Chamber of Commerces locally) so we hope to see you there!

This is a networking event, and we hope all of our friends/guests can attend and have a good time!

Catching Up!

Just a quick little note today--our open house on the 18th was a really good time--I'll post some photos today--we had a great turnout despite the freak snowstorm that showed up that day (Murphy's Law of course). The food was great, the people jolly, and the wine was flowing, and everyone had a really fun time. We met up with alot of nice people who live locally, and that's always a nice thing, since meeting your neighbors and making new friends is always a fun thing to do.

We are offering a complimentary bottle of Galen Glen wine with every weekend stay in our Green Room, through the month of March, and have alot of fun things happening this month. We have March Maple Syrup Madness, in conjunction with the local syrup producers, and will be using their syrups at breakfast--we'll leave out the bottles and information if you would like to order some for yourself, or maybe go on a tour of the local syrup farms.

We've also posted a new honeymoon special for all the sweethearts and engaged folk out there--if you are looking for a really romantic local getaway, this one is for you!

The Valentine's Weekend Wrap up!

We had a very nice weekend for Valentine's Day--we were full the whole weekend, with five nice couples coming from different parts of area--NYC (four couples) and Maryland.

We really enjoyed decorating the inn with fresh roses and tulips, and putting out chocolate hearts for our guests--we received numerous compliments and many thanks for the roses in everyone's rooms, and the holiday packs with area events for them to enjoy. Everyone ate heartily after skiing and hiking, and the fresh strawberry cups were a big breakfast treat for all the guests.

Almost all of us eventually made it over to Galen Glen for raspberry dessert wine and homeade chocolate truffles--it was a wonderful tasting, and sinfully luscious! But, Valentine's Day is not for dieting!!

We had a "surprise" couple check in today, which is fine, because we have room since 2 of the 5 couples staying with us checked out this morning, so after a quick but thorough room cleaning, and freshly laundered linens, they are ready to go!!

Valentine's Weekend

Well, this year is off to a quick start! We are completely booked for this upcoming romantic weekend, and are looking forward to meeting new people and the fun of that!

Our open house is this Wednesday, February 18th, between 3 and 6 pm, and that should be alot of fun. Everyone is welcome to drop by for a tour, some appetizers and wine, cheese, and dessert.

The Green Room's new bed turned out to be an odyssey of frustration and irritation for us--JcPenney's (whom I will never buy another stick of anything from) messed up the furniture order, and the bed got lost in space!! Two months after being charged for the bed, they still can't find it...how does this happen?? Does it just randomly grow legs and walk out of a warehouse?? Is this the only king sized bed in their possession?? Do they only carry one bed per year, and we all have to fight over it? Really bizarre. But, tomorrow it is supposedly coming, but again, we've heard that since December 12th, so I'm not holding my breath!!

Well, just a quick goodnight, and have sweet dreams!

OK--I think this may be it!

My goodness--this was a complicated one!! I don't think I would be able to set this up again, even if I tried!! It was a happy "accident" that this occurred, so I will have to spend more time tinkering with this--I am abjectly ignorant when it comes to "RSS feeds" etc. I've tried to avoid that subject, but today, it had to be confronted head on, lol...

Anyway, we've had a nice storm--a mix of snow and ice that has kept the day dark and dreary--the kids are unaffected as they are happily throwing chunks of ice into Lizard Creek, and looking rosy cheeked and exhilarated; Mark and I are just happy to be quietly stowed away where it's warm!!

We've had a very nice response in terms of reservations since taking the B&B in December...it's a beautiful place, in a wonderful location with so many nice things to do in the area, it's no wonder. Blue Mountain, the vineyards, Hawk Mountain, fishing, Jim Thorpe, Lehigh Valley--we are very happy to be here.

Wow!!

Setting up these feeds are tough--but I will figure it out--it's become a grudge match now--lets see how long it takes just so "ya know"...
